Terms of use
Last updated 30 September 2026
The short version
- You need to be 16 or older to use Whittle.
- One search gives you one report. If a search fails, it goes back to your balance automatically.
- A report is research, not advice, and its prices can be wrong. Confirm at the shop before you buy.
- Promo codes can't be sold, and gaming referrals cancels the bonus.
- Your rights under Australian Consumer Law always apply. Nothing here takes them away.
1. Who we are
Whittle is an app and website run by a sole trader in Australia ("Whittle", "we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@whittleapp.co.
These terms apply when you use the Whittle app or whittleapp.co. By using either, you agree to them.
2. The app stores' terms apply too
If you use Whittle on an iPhone, Apple's standard licence agreement for apps applies alongside these terms. If you use it on Android, Google Play's terms apply to your purchase. Where these terms and the store's terms disagree about the app itself, the store's terms win.
3. Age
You must be 16 or older to create a Whittle account or buy searches.
4. Your account
Your first search doesn't need an account. After that you'll need one, signed in with Apple, Google or your email. Keep your sign-in to yourself: you're responsible for searches made with your account.
You can delete your account at any time. Here's how.
5. Searches
- One search is one brief and one report. You answer a few questions about what you're shopping for, and Whittle researches it and gives you a report with three options.
- A search is held from your balance when it starts and used when the report is delivered.
- If a search fails (it errors, or takes longer than the time limit), it goes back to your balance automatically. You don't need to ask.
- You can run one search at a time and queue up to two more.
6. Buying searches
- You buy searches in the app, through the App Store or Google Play. The price is shown before you pay, in Australian dollars, including GST.
- Searches you buy don't expire.
- The store handles the payment. Refunds for a purchase go through the store's own process (Apple, Google Play). If a report was wrong or broken, email us too and we'll put it right.
- Searches have no cash value and can't be transferred to another account.
7. Free searches, promo codes and referrals
Whittle sometimes gives searches away: a new user's free searches, a promo code, a bonus for joining the waitlist or for inviting a friend. The number of searches and the rules for each are shown in the app when you get them. These rules apply to all of them:
- Free searches belong to the phone as well as the account. A phone that has used its free searches doesn't get more by signing up again with a new account.
- Promo codes can't be sold, swapped or published. One code per person, used once.
- A referral counts only once the person you invited completes their first search. Inviting yourself, using made-up accounts or several phones, or anything else that games a referral or promotion cancels the bonus, and we may remove searches gained that way.
- Given searches can't be exchanged for money, and we can end or change a promotion for new sign-ups at any time. Searches already in your balance stay there.
8. A report is research, not advice
- A report sums up what Whittle found in public sources: spec sheets, expert reviews, owners' comments and shops' pages. AI models do much of the reading and writing, and they make mistakes. Each claim links to its source so you can check it.
- Prices can be wrong or out of date. Confirm the price, stock and delivery at the shop before you buy.
- A report isn't financial, safety, medical or other professional advice. The choice of what to buy is yours.
- Whittle doesn't sell products. What you buy, and any problem with it, is between you and the shop, and your consumer rights against the shop are unaffected.
How Whittle picks explains how the three options are chosen.
9. Using Whittle fairly
Don't use Whittle to:
- run searches by script or bot, or copy Whittle's reports or research in bulk;
- resell reports or offer them as your own service;
- break the law, or try to get into parts of Whittle or other people's accounts you're not allowed into.
If you do, we may suspend or close your account. Unless the misuse is serious, we'll email you first and explain why.
10. Your content and ours
Your briefs and reports are yours to keep, export and share. We use your brief only to run your search and improve Whittle, as the privacy policy explains. The Whittle app, name, design and writing belong to us. Quotes in a report belong to the people who wrote them and are credited to them.
11. Your consumer rights
Whittle comes with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, such as a guarantee that a paid service is supplied with due care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes those rights.
Apart from those rights, Whittle is provided as it is. We work hard to make reports accurate, but we can't promise every report is complete or free of mistakes.
12. Problems and complaints
If something goes wrong, from a bad report to a missing search, email hello@whittleapp.co. A person reads every email and handles it by hand.
13. Changes
We may update these terms as Whittle changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters to you, such as how searches or refunds work, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
14. Law
These terms are governed by Australian law.
