How Whittle picks

Last updated 30 September 2026

The short version

  • Only you pay. You pay for the search. No shop or brand pays Whittle, and Whittle earns nothing when you buy.
  • Picks are ranked against your brief, the answers you gave: what you want, your budget and your must-haves.
  • Prices are checked, but they can be wrong. Confirm the price at the shop before you buy.
  • A report is research, not advice. The choice is yours.

Nobody pays to be ranked

Whittle makes its money one way: you buy searches in the app. That is all.

If any of that ever changes, this page and the reports will say so before it happens.

How a report is made

  1. You answer a few questions. Your answers become your brief: what you want it for, your budget, your must-haves, and anything you already own or have in mind.
  2. Whittle finds the products people actually buy in that category in Australia, across every price band, and drops any that aren't sold here or don't belong in the category.
  3. It gathers evidence on each one: the maker's spec sheet, expert reviews, what owners say (on productreview.com.au, Reddit, YouTube and Amazon Australia), and whether a newer model has replaced it.
  4. It checks your must-haves against each product: meets, doesn't meet, or can't tell from the evidence.
  5. It ranks what's left against the rest of your brief and takes the top three.
  6. It checks today's price for each of the three, from a major Australian shop's own product page where it can.
  7. A second check reads the three picks and their prices and warnings again, and fixes what it finds or says plainly when it doubts a price.

The report shows the three picks, why each fits you, what to watch out for, and the sources behind each claim, so you can check them.

AI models do the reading, the checking and the short written lines. They make mistakes, which is why every claim links to its source.

Always three

A report always shows three options. When an option doesn't meet every one of your must-haves, the report says so and names the one it misses, rather than hiding the gap.

Research is shared by category

Reading the web for a category takes time and money, so Whittle keeps that research for up to 30 days and uses it for the next person shopping in the same category. Prices are kept for at most a day and read again for your three picks. The shared research never contains your brief or anything that could identify you. Your ranking is always worked out fresh against your own brief.

Prices

Every product in a report shows a price. Whittle reads it from an Australian shop's own product page where it can, and marks it as an estimate when it can't. Packs and refills are compared at the pack price.

Prices change, sales end and shops make mistakes, so a price in a report can be wrong or out of date. Always confirm the price, stock and delivery at the shop before you buy. Whittle doesn't sell anything: what you buy, and any problem with it, is between you and the shop.

Quotes from owners

Reports quote what owners said about a product, because owners notice things reviewers miss. Each quote is short (30 words or fewer), credited to its author with the date and a link to where it was posted, and kept only inside the report it appears in.

If you wrote something Whittle quotes and want it removed, email hello@whittleapp.co with a link to the post or the report. It will be removed within 5 business days.

A report is research, not advice

Whittle does the reading so you don't have to, but it doesn't know your situation the way you do, and it isn't financial, safety, medical or professional advice. Check anything that matters to you, especially for safety, fit or compatibility.
